Sweet Jake
Tragedy can strike in a heartbeat. In one fraction of a moment - a mere blink of an eye - an ever so fragile life can be flipped upside down from everyday normal to heart wrenching catastrophe. Such was the case for Jake one horrifying day.
Jake had come to La Crescent Animal Rescue about 6 months ago as a puppy, his life being spared from a most certain euthanasia by the owner. Most recently, Jake's life was spared once more from a very regrettable tragedy. Jake had been out enjoying a ride with his adoptive family. Through an extremely unfortunate turn of events, the combination of this loveable dog's excitement and an electric window pulled Jake out of the moving vehicle and down onto the road.
As horrific as one can imagine that would be, lightning struck twice as poor Jake was then struck by a following vehicle. It was not Jake's time to go, though. Jake survived this terrible event and if you meet Jake, you'll know this accident didn't scar his spirit in the least. His body, however, has suffered some irreparable damage.
One of Jake's front legs suffered severe nerve damage and he simply cannot use it any longer. An amputation of the limb will be required, and we humbly come to you - our fearless and loving supporters - for help once again.Click here to learn more about animal limb amputation.
Jake can best be described as simply a "GREAT DOG". He has a zest for life that most of us wish we could have! He loves everyone and everything - he's a great listener and loves to cuddle! He is energetic, bouncy and happy to be alive. He pushes himself to the limit despite his poor leg and some pain he still endures. It's not uncommon for him to cry out from time to time - a sad reminder of this terrible mishap.
Jake has been returned to the consistent, compassionate care of La Crescent Animal Rescue and efforts are under way to help Jake get the medical care he needs along with the help he'll require to adjust to a new life on 3 legs.
